To keep the phone and the information it holds secure, users can create their own personal unlock pattern for the phone. The pattern can be anything – but it must connect at least four dots.

To set up unlock pattern for at & t samsung captivate:

Go to Applications > Settings > Location and Security > Set Unlock Pattern.

An instruction screen will display. Read and touch Next.

The screen will show a sample pattern being drawn. Press Next to draw an unlock pattern.

Draw the pattern on the screen provided. If the user wants to draw it over, touch Retry. If they are happy with the pattern, touch Continue.

Draw the same pattern again.

To set up this feature, touch Applications > Settings > Sound and Display > TV out. Touch TV out to place a green checkmark next to it and to turn on.

Zooming in on Images in the Browser, Maps, and Gallery

The Android™ 2.1 operating system enables users to pinch-to-zoom in on any image, page, or map in the browser, GPS, or gallery. For example, go to Applications > Gallery. Select a photo. Use the thumb and forefinger to pinch in and out of the screen.

Using Google Voice Search™

Users can search the web via voice with Google Voice Search™. Touch the key and then touch the Microphone icon by the input box. Speak the request when prompted. Users can also access this feature by going to Applications > Voice Search, or by pressing and holding the Search key.

Accessing the Virtual QWERTY keyboard

When any screen requiring input is activated, the bottom half of the screen defaults to a virtual dial pad if the phone is held upright and the screen is in portrait view. Turn the phone sideways to landscape view and the QWERTY keyboard will automatically appear.

To set the default keyboard, go to Applications > Settings > Locale & Text > Set Default Keyboard. Choose between Swype®, the Samsung keypad, or the Android™ keyboard. The Samsung keypad is the default setting.

Under Samsung Keypad Settings, users can also turn on XT9® Predictive Text, keypad sweeping, and auto-capitalization.

Setting Wallpapers ON Samsung Captivate

Samsung Captivate Users can customize the scrolling Home screens by changing out the wallpaper. If a picture taken with the phone’s camera (or downloaded from another camera) is set as the wallpaper, it will appear on each of the seven screens. Users can also set animated or live wallpapers, and pre-loaded wallpapers. Press the key, then Wallpaper to make the selection.

Live wallpapers are animated wallpapers that appear on the screens. For instance, the Galaxy wallpaper features slowly swirling stars, while the Magic Smoke wallpaper draws smoke, clouds, water, and plasmas on the screen.
